Under the guidance of Mr. Folkward Mapunda and his volunteers, the children are now living a better life and beginning to realize their full potential.
Get to know Mr. Folkward Mapunda
I had to surrender everything including my time, assets and good salary package in the middle of 2007 when I was working as Operations Manager and Social Worker Coordinator from one of the famous street children organization in the country, I made this decision order to help those children who were untouched on the streets , “children were full and no one cares, while the sounding center’s did encourage for intake or support , the existing center’s stands on so called strategical plan.
On my knowledge as social work I was feeling very frustrated and concerned about their situation and I come to the conclusion that helping street children need proper researched approach.
As therefore, I spent my days and nights in different streets of Moshi, but mostly were Mbuyuni, Njoro, Pasua, Karimani and Moshi bus stand. I doesn’t want to recall all these thing as some people think I make crazy decision walking on street a whole day, sleeping with children on the shops verandah we were like animal, you couldn’t believe we as were human beings , children were just protected by God as one fear about Malaria and a bad thing were actions did by young- children it was like movies people behaves as scavengers small children were bitten, grabbed their properties etc .In was try to solve it but sometime it was impossible.
Then the idea of Msamaria come up from the children themselves, as counseling were impossible and street environment did not give then room for change children, children did not manage to disassociate on the street behavior, like use of drug, glue, alcohol etc. However, other children get scared to get back home from the street once as they remember their previous actions had been done from in family. Today, Msamaria has given temporary shelter for street children; this means that Msamaria Social Worker, Child and Parents/Relatives have an opportunity for open dialogue.
In other hands some children on the streets give me name Msamaria, in English means “Good Samaritan” then in October 2007, when I rented a house street in our former Msamaria Karanga area from my previous savings were I had to by everything beds, mattress, beds sheets, cooking pot, food and paying other utilities like water and electric, I decided to maintained the name Msamaria as I was proving myself , the situation of leading with no do it need a lot compassion rather what you expect from it……………
Welcome to Msamaria you’re a Samaritan (Msamaria too), Welcome to our Team!
