Projects

Msamaria is always looking for new ideas for sustainable projects. As we do not have any permanent donors we need new projects to enable us to keep the centre open without having to rely on donations. If you have any ways you think you can help please contact us. Email: info@msamariakids.org

CURRENT PROJECTS

BEADING PROJECT

The Msamaria beading project was created with the purpose of providing the centre with a permanent source of income. The project relies on the artistic ability and dedication of the kids living at the centre. It is up to them to use their spare time to create beaded necklaces, bracelets, anklets and earrings. The children enjoy making jewellery and often make the request to bead by saying “teacher, Mimi shanga?” Which means teacher can I bead? Once the jewellery is made it is up to the volunteers at the centre to bring the jewellery to specific spots in Moshi that sell jewellery. The profits from this project are used to purchase food, cleaning and cooking supplies for the centre, as well as, pay bills such as water and electricity. The project was successful right from the start, when the children made their first visit to Cross Cultural Solutions, a volunteer house to sell their jewellery and made 170,000 shillings. The money allowed the centre to pay its outstanding water bill and buy beans for the children to eat. It is our goal that this beading project continues to be successful and provides the centre with a sustainable income so that one day the Msamaria centre for street children can finically support itself and can operate without financially being threatened to shut down.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND FILMING PROJECT

Foot2Afrika’s Sadock Johnson created this project with the aim to give the street kids an opportunity of future employment within the TV/Media or tourism sector.  Tourism alone is an industry which will always be flourishing in Tanzania due to the Serengeti, Mt.Kilimanjaro and   the other numerous national parks in Tanzania.
Volunteers are working with local kids from Msamaria centre to teach and direct them how to use the camera, filming, editing and make documentaries. The children learn over a long period of time the skills and understanding involved in film making and photography.
